As a contractor within the UK market place, you will be expected to operate through either your own limited company or an umbrella company.
Option One : Limited Company
Your own limited company can either be bought "off-the-shelf" or "tailor-made“ and an Accountant will sort everything out. Timeframes are normally within one week, with costs varying between £60 to £100 for company formation and around £50 per month for accounting services. You may choose your most local Accountant for ease of meeting to sign documents etc, you may choose an Accountant recommended by a contractor colleague or you may choose one of the specialist firms of accountants working within the IT industry.
Option Two : Umbrella Services
Alternatively, you can opt to utilise the services of an umbrella payroll services company. This acts as a hassle-free and flexible option which requires minimal input, ideal for first-time contractors, or for contractors working in the UK for a limited period of time only.
